catching up

Well, for those wondering...a lot has happened since last we met.
An angelic friend who "knows a guy" got me my very first official photo pass to shoot Soundgarden waaaay back in February.  Well , after that show another angelic friend got me in contact with the awesome Greg Roth and crew at Seattle Music Insider.  Since then, I've been shooting more live bands then sometimes seems possible.  Angels are out there helping me like crazy.  And I'm honored and still starstruck by the other rocktographers I have the privilege to work side by side with.  Then there's the music.  And the respect I have for how hard musicians work is insurmountable.  This is fun.  But those who want to do this should also know that yes, I have been kicked, hit, pushed yelled at and given more dirty looks than you can imagine.  But wouldn't trade a second of it for anything.

1.1 Pride & Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge 2013

As you all remember, I'm reading/watching 12 books/movies/etc as part of the Pride & Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge 2013 on www.austenprose.com
My first book was The Cumberland Plateau, A Pride and Prejudice Modern Sequel by M.K. Baxley.  Let's just say, for 650ish pages, it felt like double.  But in a very good way.  There were multiple story lines that intermixed and intertwined and weaved and wormed their way with each other.  Again, all in a very good way.  The character build, the plot developments, the overall storyline was great.  My only concern was time jumps.  But I think that was me being greedy and wanting more details on things that just seemed missed.  Again, at 650ish pages, and what felt like 4 full story lines, it could have easily been 4 seperate 300+ paged books.
Overall, great book.  I don't want to give too much away, but with the ladies being Southern Bells and the gents being English, and all with ancestral connections definitely makes for a very interesting and wonderful mix.
Here's to the next item on my list.....  The Pride & Prejudice Mini Series 1995.  You know, the one with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

Post number 2.0 You're really a professional photographer?

Why yes, I am!!!!  It has taken me a looooooong time to get here, but finally, I can say I am getting paid to do what I love.  (btw, check out my site at www.brownfotobug.com)

I have had a camera in my hands since I was about 7 or 8.  Always got in trouble for taking "too many pictures."  Always snuck my parents' Minolta and then their upscaled Nikon as I got older, too.  But back in the late 70s and early 80s, it was really expensive to take pictures.  And you had to be very picky in what you were taking pictures of and how many pictures were left on your roll.  Now, I hand my kids each their own digital camera and let them shoot away.  3000 pictures later and if they don't turn out, you simply delete the ones you don't like.  Don't want to print them?  No problem!  Save them to an external hard drive and go through them in about 20 years.

Digital photography has come so far so fast.  And it's going farther even faster.  With nanotechnology changing at lightning speeds, we have the insane ability to capture life in a completely overdocumented, all encompassing, mesmerizing, instantatneous way.  In other words, we can capture our current life, share it with the world, and see what everyone else sees right this second.  I do this to help me remember events from the past year, what my children looked like as babies, remember those that have passed away.  And it's not just for adults.  Kids as young as 7 or 8 can use their iPods/phones/etc to capture their life growing up in ways we've never ever seen before.  I wish I had this opportunity when I was a kid.  There are things I wish I could remember from my youth.

But now that I'm an adult, I can take pictures of whatever I want.  Whenever I want.  I can capture my own kids.  Capture sports and events.  Capture my parents.  Capture nature.  Capture live music.  Capture everyday objects.  Capture life.  And I think that's the whole point of photography.  Capturing that in which we can't retain.  Capturing our memories.

Happy Capturing.............

Post number 1.0 The Pride & Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge 2013

Welcome to my little blogspot.  Usually I will be blogging about my photography, but I'll save that for my next post.  Feel free to visit my website at www.brownfotobug.com.  I'm trying to connect these two, but I'm not an IT expert at all.

One of my favorite "escapes," besides shooting my camera, is reading.  And I love to read Pride & Prejudice variations.  Jane Austen is by far my favorite author and has been since I was 16 and was forced to read Pride & Prejudice in High School.  I've never forgiven my teacher for this, as it has led to an almost obsession with Darcy and Elizabeth and all the other characters that grace the pages of Austen's work.
The Pride Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge (2013)

So, some of the amazing authors that I like to read have a website,  www.austenprose.com. And thanks to Laurel Ann Nattress, I am going to enter in The Pride & Prejudice Reading Challenge. It will span the next year, and I'm committing myself to read and/or watch 9-12 books and movies. And then subsequently, review each of those books and movies. Of course this is the "Aficionada" level. My only struggle will be to see if I can find 9-12 books and movies I've not yet read or watched.
I guess I should challenge the authors over at Austenprose.com to get to publishing some new stuff so I can make it through the year.  I could cheat and review books I've previously read, but I'd be at the max instantly, and where's the fun in that?

I guess to start, I'll go with the book I'm reading currently, "The Cumberland Plateau:  A Pride and Prejudice Modern Sequel" by M. K. Baxley.  I just finished "Honor and Hope" by Regina Jeffers.  But since that was before this Challenge started, I'll save that for my own satisfaction.  (I loved it, by the way.  And wish I could hear more from those characters.....hint hint, Regina.)  I've read every single P&P adaptation from Abigail Reynolds.  If only she would write/edit/publish faster....  And I have many more favorites, but I'll have to come up with a conclusive list and try to stick to it for a whole year.  I wonder if I could get bonus points for reading more?

Happy Reading my friends.....I'm off to Pemberley.......
